A history enthusiast, I qualified as a history teacher in the 1970s and have since spent 40 years in community development with the likes of the ILEA, Oxfam and Save the Children. I have a love of social and cultural history and have an MA degree in Architectural History (University of Keele).
‘Breathing Life into History’ was established in 2004 and Armistice Day 2022 bore witness to the 1000th talk (not including courses and guided tours). Now that’s a lot of hot air! I talk about what I am interested in and if I had been told 20 years ago that this would be the current list of talks available, then I just wouldn’t have believed it. Constantly evolving, so who knows what the list will look like in 20 years’ time!
I enjoy ‘unlocking the past’ and in the words of Marcel Proust,
‘The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but seeing with new eyes’.
